2012, the Movie

Based on predictions surrounding the end of the Mayan calendar, Emmerich directs box office stars John Cusack, Thandie Newton, Amanda Peet, Danny Glover, and Oliver Platt. While Emmerich admits that he is a 2012 skeptic, he acknowledges that the concept is excellent for a movie, especially a movie with the epic special effects expected in an Emmerich movie.

From the trailer, it is clear that Emmerich chose the prediction that a geomagnetic reversal was the cause of an abrupt global catastrophe that caused Earth's tectonic plates to start shifting more than usual - proponents of an end of the world scenario in conjunction with the December 21, 2012, date anticipate that this will cause widespread earthquakes that devastate cities not ready for earthquakes, volcanic activity, and tsunamis that wipe out coastal cities. Emmerich is a master when it comes to apocalyptic effects, with a great eye for grand detail, and you can expect more than one iconic landmark to be destroyed during the course of the film. Just from the trailer, the landmark count includes the Christ of the Ozarks, the Sistine Chapel, the Washington Monument, and many others.

In the past, Emmerich concentrated his efforts on the effect of the end of the world on the United States, but it seems like he is expanding his horizons in an attempt to encompass the global nature of the 2012 prediction.

Based on the trailer, he will also follow his trend of focusing on the efforts of several families in the midst of the crisis in order to bring the action closer to home on an emotional level. The focus will vary from an average family to the President of the United States. There are rumors that there is more mysticism - such as Mayan magic and alternate dimensions - and speculative fiction aspects in the 2012 movie than in his other apocalypse movies, but Emmerich is no stranger to that aspect of movies either (i.e. Stargate), although disaster fans might find it unexpected. At the very least, fans of Emmerich and proponents of the 2012 apocalypse may find it an interesting movie and visually stunning.

The movie was originally going to come to theaters in July, but it has since been postponed to allow other movies more attention as well as to give Emmerich time to perfect the special effects. 2012 is now coming to theaters on November 13, 2009. It will give people time to see the movie, incite some research on the subject, and maybe inspire as much preparedness as possible for the upcoming 2012 mystery.

Gordon Leon a Survivalist, Futurist & Author stumbled across the 2012 Planet X phenomenon in 2007 while researching abnormal weather patterns around the globe, after much investigation he found the majority of the indigenous people and ancient prophecies such as the Mayans, Hopi Indians, Nostradamus, the Bible, all reaching the same conclusion. There will be significant Earth and climate changes that will affect us all; what was most disturbing to Gordon was the fact that nobody had come up with a plausible solution to these problems, being an accomplished survivalist and futurist he decided to write an engaging two part book on how to survive the coming disasters of 2012.
