One of Broadway's biggest musicals is set to hit the big screen thanks to a film adaptation helmed by Oscar-winning King's Speech director Tom Hooper. The classic novel by French author Victor Hugo was reinvigorated in the '80s when it was made into a musical, and now the song and dance version will be committed to celluloid.
When word of Hooper's Les Miserables project hit Hollywood, the town's biggest names wasted no time in throwing their names into the ring for the various characters. Now, it looks like two of the most sought-after parts have been offered to Amanda Seyfried and, rather surprisingly, Taylor Swift.
Swift, who has only played bit parts in television's CSI and in the ensemble film Valentine's Day, has first crack at taking on the role of Eponine, a role that reportedly had actresses like Scarlett Johansson, Glee's Lea Michele, and Evan Rachel Wood auditioning.
Seyfried is a more obvious choice for the part of Cosette thanks to her classical training as an opera singer and her musical experience in Mamma Mia! The remaining cast includes Helena Bonham Carter and Borat's Sacha Baron Cohen as Eponine's parents, Hugh Jackman in the lead role as Jean Valjean, Russel Crowe as Inspector Javert, Anne Hathaway as Fantine, and My Week with Marilyn's Eddie Redmayne as Marius.
